Todays product test is Bay’s Kitchen Jalfrezi Curry Stir in Sauce

When you’re maintaining a Low FODMAP Diet, food prep and cooking can seem never ending. That’s if you’ve got as far as planning your meals and shopping for the ingredients. The longer it goes on for the easier it gets so its not all doom and gloom……..hurrah!

One thing that helps MASSIVELY is having some ‘little helpers’ in the cupboard where you can throw a meal together in under 15 minutes. Now, I spend a lot of time prepping and cooking because not only do I have my Low FODMAP stomach to cater for but my family need feeding too. They don’t mind some of their meals being low FODMAP but it wouldn’t be fair to restrict their diet too so I generally make two versions of our meals which means quite a lot of cooking.

Some days however, I simply don’t have the time or energy to spend an hour or two cooking so I either go to my batch cooking in the freezer or reach for a ‘little helper’ and Bay’s have a range of them in the form of stir in sauces. I’ve only tried this one ‘Jalfrezi’ so far but they also have sweet and sour and tomato and basil which I’ll be testing soon.

So what is the stir in sauce like to cook with I hear you ask? Well, it couldn’t be simpler! I stir fried some diced chicken in garlic infused oil and when it was cooked through I poured in the stir in sauce. Once the sauce was heated through it was ready and it really is as easy as that.

What did it taste like? Hands up, I admit, I’m a fresh food snob. I can’t remember the last time I used something preprepared in a jar so for me this was a compromise to cut down on the cooking. A compromise it need not be because honestly, it tasted really good and reminded me of the times I used to go to Indian restaurants and order Jalfrezi as the flavours were there. Have preprepared sauces come a log way since I last tried them? I don’t know but I will be buying this one again and again and always making sure I have one in the cupboard for those hectic days.

It doesn’t end there because this sauce goes a little bit further than ease of use and taste as it is certified ‘FODMAP friendly’ so it gives you peace of mind too.

It may be more expensive than conventional stir in sauces but this really is a specialty product and at £4.15 its worth every penny if it means I can prepare it in less than 15 minutes!

If you try this curry for yourself leave a comment to let me know what you think of it.
